Mayan Jaguar Time: The Power of Silence (Part 2)

Here is Part 14 of Mayan Jaguar Time. In this series, Belit shares more about her discoveries as she explores her Mayan Jaguar Sign.

Last month we spoke about the power of silence.

You can read The Power of Silence Part 1 here.

We spoke about its benefits, about what it does for our brains and our bodies, and about how it can help with spirituality.

This month we are going to look at the reality of silence.

Does it really exist or is it something at work?

As Jaguars we, most of us I think, value our ‘silent’ times. The need to be by ourselves, the need to rejuvenate from all that is exterior, the need for silence. But is what we get really silence?  Or is it something else?

Silence is defined as the complete absence of sound. But is there any way that there is absolutely NO sound? Is that the truth or just a euphemism? How can there be NO sound when everything has energy, everything is alive and life and energy have sounds?

There is the sound of the wind, the sound of leaves rustling, the sound of water moving through streams and rivers. There is the sound of the waves of the ocean and what we hear when the ocean’s waves hit the shore. Silence is that which is just outside of our range of hearing to detect.

With that said, pure silence would be nothing, which is impossible.

We also have the sounds of our inner workings, our inner ‘noise’.

We have the sound of our joints moving, the sound of our heartbeat, the sound of our breathing, the sound of the blood as it flows through our arteries and veins, the sound of digestion, etc.

Everything makes a sound, unless it is dead. Or does death have a sound also? Does not the body continue to transform as it reverts back to its original state? Would that not also make a sound? Something to think about.

When we say silence, what we really mean is quiet, not silence.

Quiet is the freedom from all noise that is exterior to ourselves.

In the beginning, was the word and the word was with the Creator, and the word was the Creator. From total silence came the word, sound. There was nothing until sound, hence if there is no sound, there is nothing.

We are afraid of quiet or silence as we refer to it. We are afraid of that which is within ourselves. The voices that live in the heights of our soul. The inner you that yearns to be heard. The higher self that longs to be acknowledged.

We are so used to constant noise. The cars outside, the horns blowing, the screeching of tires, the air conditioner or the heat blowing, the hum of electronics. Everything is so loud we cannot hear ourselves think, nor do we recognize it when we do.

This silence, this quiet, is foreign to our psyche.

We run from it, hide from it, and attack it when it comes.

Yet, in order for true peace of mind to come, for that state of relaxation, no matter how infrequent to come, we must face this unknown. We must turn and look it in the eyes and welcome it with open arms. We must accept this quiet as our lives depend on it in order to truly know ourselves.

Knowledge of self can conquer everything.

Embrace it.

Learn your heartbeat.

Feel its rhythm.

Connect with its melody and harmony.

Be the quiet.

Until next time on Mayan Jaguar Time…
