Who we are

We are Jaguar! We are the magician, the wizard, the healer, the day keeper.

This is a magnanimous calling. A calling of great responsibility. While everyone may not know they have been given this charge, many of us who do are humbled and in awe of what we have been called to do.

At times, all of this energy and expectation can be overwhelming. It can be daunting. We may be sought out by friends, family and others for counsel. We may be leaders in our communities. Or we may be sensitive to too much emotion or we may prefer to not be in crowds.

But it is what it is. We are who we are.

This charge we have been given can cause us to be anxious, nervous and make us want to run for the hills.

So, what do we do? Is there anything that can help to alleviate this disharmony within?

Last time we spoke of our need to be authentic. This month let’s talk about one thing we can do to help bring calm and serenity, even if only for a little while.

Sacred space.

What is a Sacred Space?

What is this thing called sacred space?

First, let’s look at the meaning of sacred.

Sacred is something that is dedicated to a higher purpose, something that is set aside and something that inspires awe, reverence, or respect. Sacredness does not have to be religious, that is up to you.

We already know what is space, a location or an area.

Sacred space is a place that we set aside and dedicate to our personal growth and development. And, even more so, it is a place to recharge, to unwind, to reflect, and to contemplate.

This place is ours alone, usually separate from others or at least you can be there when needed without interruption for a specified time.

This space should also allow us to be mindful, meditate and connect us to a reality that transcends our fears. We should be able to slow down and be silent, or be able to stay in the reality of the now.

As Jaguars, we were usually set aside for the above reasons. We were given special wisdom and learning to enable us to fulfil our mission. We had our own place, separate from others, so we could connect with the higher spirits and the higher realms and give us respite from copious energies.

This was our sanctuary.

Sacred Space Intentions

Now that we have an idea of what we need, we should decide what is our personal intent for this sacred space.

What do you want to add to your life with this sacred space?

What will you do in this space?

How often will you come to the sacred space?

Will you include ancestors or characteristics of the Creator? If so, who or which ones will you bring?

These are some things we should consider before tackling the next phase: creating our sacred space.

Finding the Sacred Space

This is where it gets tricky.

Unlike former times where space was already set aside, we now may have to be creative in bringing our sacred space to life.

We may live with other people, have young children, or we may not have a lot of space. There are many parameters that we have to consider in this modern world.

As Jaguars, we are also creators. Our sacred space can be ANYWHERE we want it to be. If we are able, we can dedicate a whole room to our sacred space. We can dedicate part of a room. We can choose a sacred place in our neighbourhood. Or we can use a planetary sacred space.

Here is where the fun comes in.

As I just stated, our sacred space can be ANYWHERE.

You can jump out of the box and consider these ideas also:

Your space can be on top of a dresser, in a closet, it can be a pillow that you sit on when it is uptime, it can be a shelf, it can be in a little box that you carry with you to be able to call on to those energies whenever you need and, it can be a specific time of the day when you just stop, be still, go inside and revel in the silence.

The options are only limited by you!

Creating Your Sacred Space

Now that you have the what, the why and the where. It’s time to move on the how.

This too, is entirely up to you, because your sacred space should be meaningful to you.

To do this you may want to include special items of significance to you.

Examples of such items include candles, pictures, figurines, crystals, plants, music, bells, singing bowls, pillows, blankets, clothes, even buttons.

Whatever makes you feel at ease. These should be things that bring you comfort and peace.

Another essential quality of your sacred space is that it needs to have some ritual.

Ritual is a sequence of activities that you follow in a specific order, including words, actions and gestures, contains a specific mode of behavior, that is patterned and repetitive, meaning each time you enter your sacred space you perform your ritual.

This creates energy in your space that gets stronger each time you perform your ritual.

Your ritual is also a personal thing. This can be a very elaborate ceremony wherein you have special clothes that you wear and a grand gesture that you use. It can also be as simple as bowing your head and saying a silent prayer. You decide.

Creating a Sacred Space, Part 2

Next time, we will go over creating our space with some examples of items that we can use that are particular to Jaguars for aiding in their growth and development.

Also stay tuned, because our next session is a doozy! Next month Jaguars get a special treat as the 13-day Jaguar Trecena starts and will be a very special time for us.

So, stay tuned. See you next time on Mayan Jaguar Time.
