Mayan Jaguar Time: It happens to the best of us

Here is Part 12 of Mayan Jaguar Time. In this series, Belit shares more about her discoveries as she explores her Mayan Jaguar Sign.

Mayan Jaguar Time - It happens to the best of us

It happens to the best of us.

It happens to all of us at some point and time.

We get caught up in the overwhelming amount of things to do. The constant bombardment of information AND more importantly, misinformation, the superfast pace of life, the we-gotta-have-it-now, I mean NOW!

We end up not knowing which way to turn or even how to turn. We have jobs, or if we are blessed, we have our passion. We have family, friends, children, co-workers, bosses, the people at the places we shop, and our furry, feathered, or scaled family that we connect or share responsibilities with.

With all of these things happening in this cycle of time we barely have time to breathe, let alone think.

Then begins our demise. We start to get concerned. Then we get agitated. And then we get annoyed. Then we get stressed. And then we get even more stressed. This continues until one of two things happens. We overcome or we succumb.

When we succumb, our behavior can take on many forms, from mild distraction to serious illness. Another form can be that of loss of self.

The definition of Self is:

a person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others.

The definition of Loss is:

to be deprived of something, to not have something or be unable to find something.

Loss of self is the state of being removed from who you are. It is the state of losing our essential self. We tend to get caught up and shift into ‘human doings’. We run here and there, up and down, in and out, and all-around chasing our tails as the world spins us around. Instead, we should maintain ourselves as ‘human beings’ creatures destined to BE, to act, to move, enjoy, and love.

When we overcome, or should I say inner-come, the key to the success in this realm is a return to a connection that was misplaced in the realm of life.

Steps to you.

There are three things that you can do to return to you.

Step 1: Assess where you are now

Before you can do this, you need to do some prep work. When you get discombobulated, you must take a break and see what is going on and how you can regroup and turn things around to get back on track. Recognizing that you are lost, you will now have the opportunity to rebuild and get back into being and balance that with your doing, the things you HAVE to do, and the things you want to do. Now you can proceed with your work.

First, you must look at where you are now. Get out your journal and get ready to write. What were you doing? How were you doing it? And, what mistakes have you made? It takes an honest look at your patterns to make sure you can reverse and change any damage that was done. Taking inventory and spending time being present, not in the past, not in the future, just merely sitting and BEING. You should sit and just let the words and thoughts enter in, without judgment.

After this session, take the time to write down what came to you during your being present. You will use this to create your escape plan from the den of the doers to enter the realm of be’ers.

Step 2: Create an action plan

Secondly, now that you know what happened, you have to create an action plan to commit to so that you don’t go there again. Mind you, this may take a few passes to get it right, but as you start with a goal in mind, each minor setback will happen fewer and fewer times until you finally get it. Think about the things you need to change, things you can improve, and things you need to let go of.

It can be fairly simple to recognize the things we need to change:

Wake up an hour earlier to meditate or do some type of exercise. Plan your water intake so that you make sure you get in all the water you need for the day to maintain our optimal health. Stop eating all of those ‘bad-for-you’ snacks.

If you are in the process of doing these things listed above, it may just be a minor tweak to get you over the edge and to balance your life out again.

The most challenging of these is letting go. We have become addicted to having things, and this includes relationships. We want our things to be like ‘man’ over there or we want our relationship to be like the relationship with ‘woman’ over there. All of this desiring and wanting is going to put you in a potentially dangerous space.

One thing to combat this is to develop a daily ritual of gratitude. Once in the morning or even twice daily. Mainly being grateful for being able to rise again another day. Then again in the evening, being thankful for making it through the day and the little joyful things that came your way like the sunshine, the wind, a baby’s laugh, a friendly dog, whatever you come across is a blessing.

Step 3: Get to know the real YOU

Next, we need to spend some serious introspection on getting to know who YOU are. Your likes and dislikes, how you think, how you feel, what you want to achieve. A great first step is to continue with your journaling. It does not have to be long, but at least five minutes each day, preferably in the evening before bed. Then once a week you should take out your journal and read your thoughts and jot down the things you are learning about. This can be your essence journal as it will bring you back to you. Create some questions from the above ideas or come up with your own questions and write your answers.

Spend some time daily, with yourself ONLY, and just be with you.

Now, the journey begins.
